LKE – Laboratory for Nuclear Energy Systmes

The laboratory performs research in a close co-operation with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in the field of single- and multi-phase flows in nuclear power installations. Beside applied topics, studies of fundamental thermal fluid-dynamic phenomena are part of the research activities. New test facilities are planned, which will be equipped with high-resolution two-phase instrumentation. The in-house development of novel measuring techniques is an important issue. Large-scale experiments are performed at the PANDA containment test facility of the Laboratory of Thermohydraulics in PSI. The experiments aid developing and validating codes for three-dimensional computational modelling (CFD).

Events

Short Courses on Multiphase Flow 
The LKE offers every year a course on multiphase flow. In 2015 a similar course will be conducted again. Preliminary date is 9-13th February 2015.

CFD4NRS-5: OECD/NEA & IAEA Workshop 
The Workshop is intended to represent a forum whereby numerical analysts and experimentalists can exchange information in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Computational Multi-Fluid Dynamics (CMFD) to Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) safety and design issues.
